  I hurt my back lifting my 20 lb. dog on October 30. Having had 2 prior herniated discs resulting in surgery, I knew exactly what it was. My PCP ordered useless xrays and pain meds only when my husband insisted. My leg was dragging and I was in agony.
  
  By luck of the draw I saw Dr. Shatynski at the Bone and Joint Center. I was not enthusiastic. My previous doctor was a surgeon and had retired anyway.
  
  Dr. Shatynski did a reasonably quick but thorough exam and ordered an MRI. He then prescribed adequate pain meds. I was so relieved not to face suffering. Also I went to physical therapy.
  
  When I saw him again, I was not much better, but no worse. I agreed that I was not a candidate for surgery as I had been in the past, when the disc ruptured. Still, I was unfamiliar with healing in a conservative way. Would it work at all?
  
  Day followed agonizing day. Thanksgiving came and went, as did Christmas. I was incredibly depressed and cried every day. In January I was still walking with a cane.
  
  But gradually, almost imperceptibly, I was healing. By April I was weak but pain free.
  
  Dr. Shatynski was professional and considerate and I would definitely recommend him.
